Detroit Pistons Bobbleheads return with a new look
Detroit Pistons Press Release - David Wieme -  November 5, 2003
Tayshaun Prince Action Statue Kicks Off 2003-04 Bobblehead Sundays
on November 9, 2003 AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – On Sunday, November
9th, the Detroit Pistons will continue the legacy of their most popular
giveaway in history– the bobblehead – with an improved Tayshaun
Prince statue given to the first 10,000 fans who enter The Palace. Game
time for the Pistons vs. New Jersey Nets match-up is 6:00 PM and doors
open at 4:00 PM.
Sporting his #22 home white Pistons jersey and posed in a “triple
threat” position, the new Tayshaun bobblehead has a sleeker, more
athletic look than last year’s statues. Sponsored by Co-Op Optical
and The Detroit News, the Tayshaun bobblehead is the first of eight bobbleheads
that will be given away on Bobblehead Sundays this year.
“The bobbleheads are back!” said Tom Wilson, president and
CEO of the Detroit Pistons. “When we saw our schedule, we decided
to tweak things a bit and changed the bobblehead giveaways to Sunday nights.
For me, the most exciting part of the night is seeing the faces of kids,
big and little, as they get their bobbleheads. They just light up as they
pull the bobbles out of the boxes and admire their own small piece of
their favorite team.”
Last season, the Pistons sold out every bobblehead giveaway night. This
season, based upon the enormous popularity of the giveaway, the Pistons
changed Bobblehead Saturdays to Bobblehead Sundays in an effort to give
fans more opportunities for bobblehead statues.
The Pistons are the only team in the NBA to give away eight bobbleheads
and in a quantity of 10,000 per night during the regular season. Last
season, the average time for the supply of bobbleheads to be distributed
before each game was “less than 75 minutes.”
After Prince’s Sunday, the Pistons have planned for a Ben Wallace
All-Star bobblehead (Nov. 23rd), a Rip Hamilton Santa bobble (Dec. 21st),
a Darko Milicic rookie bobblehead (Jan. 11th), a Big Ben “Gong”
bobble (Jan. 25th), a Chauncey Billups talking bobblehead (Feb. 22nd),
a Mehmet Okur action bobble (March 14th) and a Corliss Williamson bobblehead
(April 4th). Also given away this year will be mini-bobblehead ornaments
on December 3rd (Rip Hamilton), December 9th (Ben Wallace) and December
17th (Chauncey Billups).
